Time for vacation photos! Beaches, palm trees, the works. Pictures from our recent trip down to the Dominican Republic, where we used to live for the better part of the year 2000. Touring a good chunk of the island by boat, car, motoconcho, and propeller plane, we visited old friends and old haunts in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Sosua, Las Terrenas, and in between, saw whales in the bay of Samana, dove a little, and made two movies: “Playa Bonita” and “Outlandish Republic.”

As much as I’d like to blame it on the rum, it was a clear, sober morning when I hatched the idea for a Caribbean homage to David Lynch.
What’s it about? A puppy in trouble.

OUTLANDISH REPUBLIC (I insist on the capitalization) was shot on the run in various locations around the Dominican Republic, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, Sosua, and the Hotel Atlantis in Las Terrenas. Beware of the giraffe!

Playa Bonita

You gotta love the web 2.0 revolution: even more ways for people to share their boring vacation videos around! This one is especially dull; I just set up the camera and went for a swim. I was going to call it Wavelength but then I changed my mind. Playa Bonita was shot here: [Google Maps] - [Google Earth]. There’ll be photos and a much more elaborate video project as soon as I can find the time.
