Which is the ultimate act of nonviolence? Luke doesn’t kill Vader — but he does kinda try, doesn’t he? Or is it Vader not killing Luke, and then turning to kill the Emporer? That’s still kinda violence. Maybe you were referring to a diff scene?
Luke throwing his light saber away instead of finishing Vader: “I am Jedi like my father before me.” He knows the Emperor is going to kill him, but he refuses to fight. It loses its impact once you’ve seen it a million times because you know what happens, but Luke is ready to die. That’s is the moment he fulfills his promise, and of course that’s what makes Anakin turn back. So both Luke & Anakin’s storylines reach their climax together! How satisfying.
