OK, I give up. In concept, this fake academic reconstruction of an absurd sci-fi past by David Mamet seems like a great idea. There are the Cola riots, the Internet broke down, and most of the “plot” is rendered through footnotes and footnotes to footnotes, somewhat like Nabakov’s Pale Fire. There are some great jokes hidden in the mess, but after a while, I realized that none of it added up (or at least, it didn’t if you only read a few pages before passing out every night.) This is great fun to read around in, but right now I can’t seem to muster the patience to wade through and see if it all connects.
A Mamet treatise I loved is Three Uses of the Knife. If you’re interested in storytelling, drama, plot, this is highly recommended.
